James Patrick Hockinson “Jim”, 69, US Army Retiree passed away peacefully with his loving family at his side on Friday, August 16th. Jim courageously battled pancreatic cancer for the past 2 years. His big smile, positive attitude, and quick sense of humor never left him. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Jim was born on June 17th, 1955 in St. Paul to Betty and Marv Hockinson, the third of four children. The family moved to Albert Lea in 1964. Jim graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1974. Jim enlisted in the US Army taking advantage of the delayed enlistment program, He attended boot camp at Fort Gordon, Georgia immediately following graduation. Jim was a K9 handler while deployed in South Korea. He proudly continued his military career in the Minnesota Army National Guard until his retirement at the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Jim was proud of his sobriety and was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous. Jim was past Vice-Commander of the American Legion and enjoyed helping with all aspects of the club. He was a Charter Member of the Legion Riders Motorcycle Club. He was also a member of the Dry Riders Motorcycle Club and the Christian Motorcycle Club.
Jim is survived by his son, David; granddaughters, Annabelle Hockinson and Alianna Rogers; sister, Joey Crill; brothers, Dan (BJ) and Mick (Diane), many nieces and nephews, numerous friends. A special thank you for all of the support given Jim by Nancy and Lee Valle.
